Try our self-check stations

Library books are now equipped with radio frequency identification tags. This means that you can use the self-check station located near the elevators on the first floor to check your books out! Just place your items on the pad, scan the library barcode on the back of your OtterID card, wait for the background color on the screen to turn green, and go! Self-check is quick, unmediated, and you get a personalized receipt reminding you of when materials are due back.

After hours book drop

Books due? Library closed? No problem! Our after hours book return is located west of the Divarty St. entrance to the library, across from Asilomar Hall. When you place an item in the drop, please check to see that it has slid all the way down the chute. Items turned in overnight will be checked backinto the library the following morning. Items dropped off between Friday night and Sunday morning will be received Sunday afternoon.

Quiet areas

Need a quiet place to study? The quiet areas in the library are:

Second floor: Quiet study living room at the east end.

Third floor: Archives reading room at the west end.

In the quiet areas, please set your cell phones to silent and refrain from having conversations with others. Also, remember that group study is allowed in most other areas of the library. The library and your fellow students thank you for your consideration!

Administrative Furlough Days

The Library will be open, but offering limited services on the following Administrative Furlough Days: September 25th, October 9th, November 6th and December 4th (all Fridays). The check out desk personnel will accept returned books, check out books and provide assistance with the self checkout stations. There will be no reference service (Ask a Librarian) available.

The Library building will be closed on the following State Budget Closure Days: Tuesday, September 8th, Friday, October 23 and Wednesday, November 25th.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Why is Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated from September 15 through October 15? September 15 is independence day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. September 16 is independence day for Mexico. September 18 is independence day for Chile. October 12 is Dia de la Raza (Columbus Day). New default password

An important message from IT@CSUMB: When you first get your OtterID, your default password is your date of birth in the format of the capitalized month, followed by the two-digit day and four-digit year. For example, if your birthdate was July 9, 1980, your password would be July091980.

Welcome, new students, and welcome back to those of you who are returning! The TAL was designed to support active, collaborative learning as well as quiet study, so we hope that you will find a place that’s comfortable and meets your needs. Quiet areas are on the second and third floors, and are clearly marked with signs. Also, please remember that you are welcome to bring food and drink into the library with you! Please just remember to keep it neat–keep lids on cups, and food wrapped up if you’re not eating it.

Open Lab now in Rm. 1128

The open computer lab has moved from Room 2145 to Room 1128 between the “Ask a Librarian” desk and the IT Help desk. The lab will contain 30 Mac desktop computers that run Windows XP only, and will be available during regular library hours except when being used for library instruction sessions.
